Day 23: Peace that Surpasses Understanding

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 ESV)

What does it take to understand something? Is it seeing how all the parts and pieces work together? Is it knowing how something started and how it will end? Maybe it’s having done something before?

For the peace of God to surpass our understanding, we have to stop trying to analyze our way through our struggles and instead lean into the wholeness that Jesus offers, trusting that nothing is missing or broken. While God is not confusing, he is sometimes mysterious in his ways. Experiencing his peace requires us to surrender our desire to know exactly how something will turn out and trust Jesus.

God, thank you for knowing me and knowing exactly what my worries are. Thank you for knowing every little detail about me, my life, and my current circumstances. Thank you that I can rely on you instead of trying to do everything on my own. Teach me to hold all of the details of my life with open hands and fill me with your peace that goes beyond my understanding.
