Day Five: FOMO

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. (Colossians 1:16 ESV)

At some point, most of us wonder if we are where we should be in life. We worry we’re not reaching the milestones we think we should reach, not accomplishing enough, or that maybe our goals and ideas aren’t even moving us in the right direction. We think if we aren’t doing all we should be doing, or being who we are supposed to be, we may be falling behind while others move ahead.

Those are fears we don’t need to carry though. God’s purpose for all of us is simply to be in relationship with him and to live out our faith in relationship with others. He created us to be loved by him and to bring glory to him. We don’t have to fear that we are falling behind or missing his plan for us. He is his plan for us! The jobs we work, the families we raise, the relationships we cultivate, and even the growth we experience, are all meant to serve as channels through which we honor God, know him more, and experience his love for us.

And as we experience God’s love for us, it begins to impact those around us. His love for us flows through us so that others can know him too.

When you see your life’s purpose as being in relationship with God, you never have to fear you are missing out on something. God delights in you! What greater purpose is there than to be with him?

Prayer

God, thank you for creating me to be in relationship with you. I acknowledge the greatest purpose for my life is to be with you and to bring glory to you. Whenever my focus drifts and I begin to worry that my life is not all it should be, let me feel the ease and joy of your delight in me. Keep me from looking to the left and to the right at what others are doing as a measure for where I should be or what I should be doing. Remind me that although the details of my life matter very much to you, your greatest concern is for me to be close to you. I find my purpose, my path, and my plan in you.
